uva library, amsterdam (nl)
the msc3/4 graduation project of interiors, buildings and cities explores the possibility of a university library
in the city center of amsterdam. designing a building in the inner city requires a close reading of existing and demolished context.
context in that sense relates to many things: the architectural traditions and cultures of amsterdam, the precedents of
domestic and institutional architectures, the continuities and discontinuities in the architecture of the city.
it also includes a careful study of architectural models and building typologies from various times. the library offers
a rich and inspiring range of prototypes for this.
the design will consist of a university library, a mediatheque, a study centre, meeting rooms, exposition space, a cafe
and offices (ca. 15.000 m2)
